How to Provide the Required Measurements:
All measurements should be made over undergarments that you normally wear, or that you intend to wear with the costume. It is important that you stand straight and relaxed to insure accurate measurements. The illustration and information provided below are intended to aide you in determining the correct size prior to ordering your pattern.
Bust/Chest Measurement:
The bust/chest measurement should be taken around the fullest part of the chest with the measuring tape remaining straight across the back.
Waist Measurement:
In order to obtain an accurate waist measurement, tie a narrow piece of elastic around your waist and let it settle naturally at your waistline (Wearing a pair of tights or hose can also perform the same function). The waist measurement should be taken over the the line indicated by the elastic. Keep the elastic in place after taking the waist measurement. It will be needed for the Back Waist Length measurement.
Hip Measurement:
The hip measurement should be taken around the body at its fullest part, approximately 7-9 inches below the waist.
Back Waist Length Measurement:
This measurement should be taken from the prominent bone at the base of the neck to the natural waistline. Dropping the head forward or wearing a necklace sometimes helps in identifying the correct vertebra.
